This summer can be the turning point in your skin’s health. People will notice. You will have a healthy glow. You will look younger. People will wonder what hocus-pocus you are up to. You can keep this to yourself, but it would amazing to share this with the people you love. Let’s get started!

Easy and Safe Anti-Aging Tips for Healthy Skin

Timing is Everything. When you are in your 20s and 30s, you might not be thinking about anti-aging, but this is really the best time (or sooner) to start good healthy skin habits. The sooner you start the longer the results will last. But don’t worry, it’s never TOO LATE to start any of these practices. If you are in your 40s, 50s, 60s or beyond, healthy skin is absolutely attainable and important..

#1. Use Safe and Natural Sun Screen and Lotion

Did you know that Europe bans over 1400 ingredients in skin care products while the United States only bans 30? While this is alarming, what it really means is that we need to be diligent about our own research of the products we put on our bodies. Hawaii passed a bill banning sunscreen that harms coral reefs. Australia is not far behind in following suit.

If these chemicals contribute to coral bleaching when washed off in the ocean, imagine what they do to your skin. Yikes! Our favorite safe sunscreen is Beautycounter Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Lotion. It comes in a lotion and a mist and I really love the Mineral Sunscreen Mist. It goes on easily and doesn’t irritate my skin.

#2. Drink Lots of Water

This really can’t be stressed enough. Water is vital to our survival and paramount to healthy, younger looking skin. It also helps our joints and soft tissues. Drink more water!

#3. Eat Healthy Fats

What you eat can have a big impact on your skin health. Essential nutrients are, well, essential, to protect your skin. Here is a list of 11 foods that are great for anti-aging. You will notice that Chocolate and Wine are on this list. YEA!

  • Fatty fish

  • Avocados

  • Walnuts

  • Sweet potatoes

  • Sunflower seeds

  • Red and yellow bell peppers

  • Broccoli

  • Tomatoes

  • Dark Chocolate

  • Green Tea

  • Red Wine

#4. Moisturize your skin DAILY for Anti-aging results

Drink water, eat healthy fats, AND moisturize your skin every day. The same logic that goes into using healthy sunscreen is also important when choosing a moisturizer. Did you know that a lot of lotions contain ingredients that actually dry out your skin. What? Crazy right? It’s true.

We really love the BeautyCounter line of products and they have so many wonderful, safe and natural products to keep your skin moisturized and glowing. If you aren’t sure which one is right for your skin, Dr. Allyson is happy to work with you to discover the perfect combination for your healthy skin.

#5. Vitamin C Helps with Anti-Aging and Skin Health

Vitamin C is an antioxidant which reduces inflammation and free radical damage. It also supports collagen production naturally (no need for face injections!). Collagen plays a major role in helping our skin look and feel healthy. The body is not able to make vitamin C on its own, and it does not store vitamin C. So it is really important to get plenty of vitamin C.

You can apply Vitamin C topically in a liquid form. You can also take it orally in capsule or vitamin, but the best way to get your daily dose of Vitamin C is through foods that contain it. Here is a list of great options:

  • Broccoli

  • Brussels sprouts

  • Cauliflower.

  • Green and red peppers

  • Spinach, cabbage, turnip greens, and other leafy greens.

  • Sweet and white potatoes

  • Oranges and other citrus fruit

  • Tomatoes and tomato juice.

  • Winter squash

The Wrap Up

As you can see, these 5 things are easy to integrate into your daily healthy habits. You can even start today. We suggest taking a look at the current sun screen you are using and do some research on the ingredients before you wipe them all over your skin. You might be surprised by what you find. Oh, and grab a glass of water while you are at it!

Have a happy and healthy summer!
