Why Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy?

It’s All About The Hips

prenatal chiropractic

In order for your baby to pass through the pelvis with ease, the bones, muscles, and ligaments must all be in balance with each other, working together to allow an opening for your baby to travel safely through. The most common reason that pregnant women come into my office is because of misalignment within the pelvic area. This can present as low back pain, hip pain, sciatica, round ligament pain, rib pain, difficulty moving from sitting to standing, premature contractions, heartburn, and groin pain. Chiropractic care using the Webster Technique will assess the structures of the pelvis, and through specific adjustment and soft tissue, work will restore balance creating more ease, less pain, and an open outlet for your baby to travel through.

The Optimal Position For Baby

Connected to the pelvis are 3 major ligaments attaching to the uterus.:

  • broad
  • round
  • uterosacral

These ligaments work together to support the position of the uterus and allow space for the baby to grow. When the pelvis is out of balance, prenatal chiropracticthe uterus will shift its position creating tension, torsion, and intrauterine constraint. This intrauterine constraint decreases the amount of space for the baby to move into an optimal position for birth. Another major component of pelvic balance is the psoas muscles, also known as hip flexor muscles. Our hip flexor muscles can contract on either one side or both depending on the imbalance of the pelvis, creating less room for your baby to move. Using the Webster Technique, we can balance these ligaments and muscles and restore stability back to the pelvis.

Chiropractic care is a safe, gentle, and effective way to address the discomforts of pregnancy, create the optimal environment for the growing baby, and empower the mother to handle stress with more ease.
