Diet Misinformation: The Skinny on Fad Diets

Fad Diets

It seems like every few months we are being bombarded with information on new fad diets. At least they aren’t touting the “grapefruit diet” anymore, but it can be really confusing to wade through so much information.

(Spoiler alert: Grapefruit does not burn fat)

Fad Diets

Many of these diets promise unrealistic weight-loss and don’t take into account that we are all different, with different nutritional needs, body types, and even food allergies and sensitivities. However, there are a few things that science will never change when it comes to eating healthy.

Food Allergies and Sensitivities

It may be a good idea to work with a nutritionist and have some food allergy and sensitivity testing done. Some foods could be making you feel bloated, achy, foggy in the brain, and even producing arthritis-like symptoms. If the food you eat is causing you to feel less than your best, it will be harder to maintain a healthy lifestyle and feel motivated to make healthy choices.

Food sensitivities and allergies are not always obvious. Peanut allergies and other ingredients that cause immediate and life-threatening situations are very easy to diagnose. But most foods cause people much sneakier problems.  If they were all obvious it would be a lot easier to pinpoint them and avoid them. It is far more common to eat certain foods regularly and simply “get used” to feeling a certain way. This is why testing can be an invaluable key to helping you unlock the right formula that works for you.

Eating Healthy without Fad Diets

If you put fewer calories into your body than what you are burning off you will lose weight. Scientifically, this will always be true. However, we know from either a personal experience, a loved one’s struggle, or stories we read, that it isn’t always that simple. You can diet and exercise for months and not see the scale budge an ounce. How frustrating! This is when it is time to really get into the science and needs of your specific nutrition with the help of medical professionals who can help you reveal what is best for you.

However, here are some things to keep in mind that is true for everyone. Even if the scale doesn’t move, you will still be healthier and feel better if you follow these guidelines:

  • Drink lots of water
  • Minimize your intake of processed sugar
  • Eat plenty of organic fruits and vegetables
  • Supplement your nutrition with the right vitamins and minerals
  • Develop good sleeping habits and routines
  • Engage in some form of physical activity every day
  • Practice relaxation and ways to reduce stress
  • Do things you love regularly

Whether you are trying to lose weight, get in shape, eat better, or simply just feel your best, chiropractic can help you. Adjustments will not cause you to lose weight, but they will align your body and tune-it up so you are primed to enjoy all the benefits of your efforts.

A car that is properly maintained with tune-ups, oil changes, and regular maintenance will run much better than a car that is neglected. Your body is the same way – chiropractic care will keep you tuned up and feeling your best so you can maintain the healthy lifestyle you are seeking. Chiropractic can also help your body fight illness and viruses, improve sleep, and prevent injuries.

At our practice, we address our client’s digestive issues through a hands on method called The Zone Technique, which balances the 6 main systems of the body, the digestive system being one of those 6 systems.
