Common Reasons for a Newborn to See a Chiropractor

Birth is amazing. It is life changing. It is also traumatic. Even when everything goes right. Especially if the process wasn’t ideal. Birth affects everyone involved: the mother, the baby, the other parent, and the people waiting to welcome the new life into their world.

Let’s look at some great reasons for babies to visit the chiropractor.

#1. Birth is Tough

During pregnancy the focus is mostly on the mother. Health wise and attention wise. Everybody understands and acknowledges that birth is hard on the mother. It IS! But what is often not addressed is that birth is hard on the baby too. Squeezing through the birth canal or experiencing a C-Section can be hard on babies’ bodies. A newborn chiro check-up and regular care can ensure that all those precious, malleable bones are in the right place after all that twisting and squeezing—not to mention being passed around to everyone who wants to hold the new baby.

#2. Improved Immunity

Speaking of passing the baby, it’s important to protect a newborn from germs and viruses. We can do a lot of things to help with this, including washing hands, staying away from sick people, putting a plastic bubble around the baby. Well, ok, maybe not that one. Grandma will get upset when she can’t pinch those delicious cheeks. But you can armor your baby with a well-functioning immune system. Regular chiropractic care is like a coat of armor for the immune system. It helps the body become a well oiled machine to fight off germs.

#3. Improved Sleep Quality

All parents of newborns are sleep deprived, but the baby might be too. Chiropractic adjustments help improve the quality of sleep for babies, children, and adults. Everyone in the house of a newborn needs the best sleep they can get. Parenting isn’t easy!

Gentle massage and spinal adjustments help babies get a better night’s sleep.

#4. Helps with Colic

About 15% of newborns are diagnosed with colic and can cry up to 3 hours a day. If you have ever experienced a newborn cry for a mere 3 minutes you can imagine what 3 hours could do to everyone’s peace of mind. Chiropractic care is a safe and natural way to ease colic symptoms and reduce crying.

#5. Ear Infections

Ear infections can be common in infants and children, but they don’t have to be. Chiropractic care is often overlooked as a very good preventative measure for ear infections. Five out of six children will experience an ear infection by the time they are three years old. Studies have proven chiropractic treatment of earaches is very effective. Adjustments to the spine and nervous system are able to help strengthen the immune system and help your child manage pain better.

#6. Digestive Issues

Babies can experience all sorts of tummy trouble such as constipation, reflux, and gerd, are quite common. There are specific areas of the spine connected to digestion so if any areas are out of alignment, the body will let you know and your baby will let you know. Nerve function also affects how the body manages digestion. Once the spine is aligned, better digestion resumes.
